Description:
Spanish for Business is a program designed for international business, management, and/or Spanish majors/minors who desire to incorporate their Spanish language training with doing business in a Spanish-speaking environment. Students will learn about the economy, commerce, and business enterprises of the Hispanic world from a socio-cultural, communicative and practical perspective. The course will cover: key cultural information for understanding the Spanish economy and its context; basic commercial terminology; common expressions used in conducting business in Spanish; and the language of written documents such as business letters, curriculum vitae, and other specialized documents. Comparisons will be made between business practices common in Spain, the U.S., and various Latin American countries. The course includes 4 field observations at local commercial and industrial enterprises important to the economy of southern Spain. This course is designed to assist a student in preparing for the Madrid Chamber of Commerce exams for the basic and superior level certificates in Spanish for Business. Intermediate high ACTFL proficiency in Spanish or successful completion of a 5th semester college-level Spanish course.
