New Zealand
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: Fall: mid-July - November; Spring: late February - July
Description:
Established in 1883, the University of Auckland is one of New Zealand's oldest and largest universities and is the country's leading research institution. While the University serves its 27,000 students on five campuses in and around Auckland, the City Campus is where study abroad students live and learn. This campus is set on park-like grounds near the center of the cosmopolitan city of Auckland. As a study abroad student at the University of Auckland you will enroll in up to four courses for the duration of your semester abroad. The University of Auckland offers a wide variety of subject areas to choose from including Maori Studies, Business, Sciences, Drama and Languages.
Highlights:
The Universitys academic year comprises two semesters. Each semester runs for approximately 16 17 weeks (including a study break and examinations). All study abroad students must enroll in 4 courses (approximately 12 16 U.S. credits). Enrolling in 3 or 5 courses is not allowed. Typically, lectures are 50 minutes, and you have 2 to 4 hours of lectures per class each week. Tutorials and laboratory sessions represent another 1 to 4 hours a week per class, depending very much on the subject or discipline. Assessment for classes varies, but most classes will include a combination of assignments, tests and a final written examination.
