Term: Summer
Dates: June 28 - August 2
Description:
The June 28-August 2 program in Cannes, France, has a senior level (16-19 years) and a strong emphasis on academics, specifically: French language, culture, history, and art. This is a campus program; the students live and study on the centrally located campus of Centre International de Cannes. Together with their international peers, students enjoy program activities, as well as weekend excursions to the most spectacular sites of the Riviera. During the final week of the program, students go on a one-week trip to the Loire Valley and Paris. There is no formal requirement of French proficiency, although a minimal knowledge of French is highly recommended. Academics- - The curriculum includes intensive French language classes for all levels and elective classes on French culture, art, literature, and history. Instruction is given by CIC faculty and Abbey Road staff members. The language classes typically take place in the morning, from 9 am to 12 noon, while electives take place in the early afternoon. Housing- - Students live in a college dormitory, on the beautiful CIC campus, two steps away from the nearest beach and a 10 minute walk from downtown Cannes. The campus is equipped with athletic and recreational facilities, as well as a computer lab and a theater auditorium. Students share rooms with their international and American peers. Daily Activities- - In the afternoons and evenings, Abbey Road students enjoy many athletic and recreational activities: watersports, movies, shopping, concerts, museums, outdoor cafes and many other local offerings. On Saturdays and Sundays, students go on day-trips to some of the most beautiful sites of the French Riviera: Monaco, St. Tropez, Grasse and its famous perfume factory, the perched villages of St. Paul and Gourdon, Nice and its Old Town, and many others.
