Australia
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: February and/or July
Description:
Murdoch University is proud of its reputation as an outstanding teaching and research university and was rated as top university in Australia in the Prime Minister's National Education Award and high rating for 'Graduate Satisfaction'. With a current enrollment of 11,500 students, including 1,500 internationals from over 50 countries, Murdoch is a moderate-size university with vibrant campus life. The International office and staff of Murdoch offers personalized attention and extensive services to it international guests. Perth , the capital of Western Australia , is home to 1.38 million people and enjoys more hours of sunshine than any capital city in Australia. Perth is a safe, friendly and inexpensive city, and is large enough to be an exciting and cosmopolitan city, yet small enough to offer a friendly and relaxed lifestyle. Murdoch University is set on a beautifully landscaped campus, which is located approximately 20 minutes by bus (nine miles) from Perth's city centre and 10 minutes by bus (5 miles) from the popular cafe district of Fremantle. A second smaller campus is located at Rockingham about 30 minutes away, and the University operates a regular shuttle bus to this campus.
Highlights:
Murdoch University organizes a 10-day camping expedition in remote Western Australia for all Study Abroad students - this incredible trip is included in your Australearn Program Fees. This fun-filled bus trip, to the rugged North West of Western Australia, covers close to 2,500 miles across plains of wild flowers and the vast outcrop that is outback Australia. On this trip students will meet the dolphins at Monkey Mia in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, visit Ningaloo reef, home to some 500 species of fish, and hike the spectacular gorges of Karijini National Park. The trip will also introduce students to the aboriginal people, their history and traditions, as well as the major issues they face today. CISWA (Council for International Students of WA) also arranges activities and excursions for international students throughout the semester. Students will need to come to the International Office to book these trips.
