Description:
This well established study tour of Greece includes daily visits to important Minoan, Mycenaean, Classical and Byzantine sites in Greece. Lectures and discussions on Classical Mythology provide the context in which to examine aspects of art, architecture, history, religion and much more. Stays on Crete, Santorini and Mykonos are included. "SUNY Brockport study abroad programs are for students matriculated in the US only, US students only."
Highlights:
Itinerary: In the first part of the program, we visit the most important classical and Mycenaean sites of Mainland Greece - Athens and its world famous monuments (the Parthenon, etc.), Cape Sunion, Eleusis, Delphi, Olympia, Mystras, Mycenae, Epidauros and others. Next we sail to Crete, rich in still Minoan palaces, rugged landscape and distinctive culture. Also scheduled is a trek through the spectacular Samaria gorge. In Santorini we visit ash covered Akrotiri, thought to be the source of the myth of Atlantis. Mykonos is our base to visit the sacred island of Delos. Travel and transfer are by private air conditioned bus. Arrangements for extended travel should be made 60 days prior to departure. Participants should be in sound health and prepared for much walking. No visa required with US passport.
