Description:
Berkeley Summer Sessions offers exciting Travel Study programs that give you the chance to combine international travel with academic achievement. Courses are taught by regular rank UC Berkeley faculty, faculty of host institutions, and UC Berkeley graduate student instructors.
Highlights:
Enhance your awareness of Portuguese culture and language through direct contact with Portuguese educational and cultural institutions. Students will be hosted by three different universities during the program: the University of the Azores on the island of Sao Miguel, the University of Porto in the city of Porto, and University Lusofona in Lisbon. The program leads you through a comprehensive trajectory to establish the historical, cultural, economic, and political links between Portugal, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, particularly South America. Guided visits and excursions are incorporated throughout the program to such locations as tea plantations, castles, festivals, lakes, museums, and notable nearby towns.

Program fee includes room, some meals, textbooks, excursions and other program-related costs. Scholarships are Available. Scholarships covering the Program Fee are available to the first 30 eligible University of California, Berkeley students participating in this program. To apply for the scholarship, submit the application online and then write a short essay (no more than 500 words) stating why you want to participate in the program. Essays can be submitted to the Program Director, Deolinda Adao, by email to deoadao@berkeley.edu with the subject line: Portugal Scholarship Essay. Please keep in mind that you may be asked in for a brief interview. This funding is available to all Berkeley students and is independent and not contingent on Financial Aid.
