Description:
The SUNY Brockport Program at University of Warwick is a one semester or full-year program offered in both the fall and spring semesters. Designed primarily for upper-division (Junior/Senior year) students matriculated at American colleges and universities, this SUNY Overseas Academic Program provides the opportunity for undergraduates to spend a portion of their academic careers as students at this British university. The SUNY Brockport University of Warwick Program allows American undergraduates to become, for their semester or year of participation actual University of Warwick undergraduates to attend the same classes, to live in the same housing, to participate in the same social, cultural, athletic, and academic extracurricular activities as their British counterparts. This program seeks to fully integrate American students into this British university for a semester or a year. "SUNY Brockport study abroad programs are for students matriculated in the US only, US students only."
Highlights:
Founded in 1965, the University of Warwick, has developed from a Greenfield site into one of Britain's most successful universities, with an international reputation for academic excellence. It is consistently rated in the 'top ten' universities in the UK in surveys of teaching and research studies, and is currently ranked top university outside of London and Oxbridge in the 1999 Times Good University Guide. Warwick University is situated on an attractive 750 acre campus, just on the edge of the city of Coventry. On three sides the campus is surrounded by fields and woodlands on the fourth is a modern residential district of Coventry, with a convenient large shopping center. The modern landscaped campus is attractive, safe and well maintained, and is constantly being developed to provide new student facilities, while at the same time protecting the natural environment which is such an important feature of the campus. The many open spaces, the woodlands, a nature reserve, and a number of lakes together make Warwick a very pleasant environment to live and study in. You will find everything you need for day to day life on the campus itself. The campus has its own restaurants, shops, banks, drugstore, theatre, cinema, book store, health center and sports facilities. A major attraction is the Warwick Arts Centre, the largest centre for the performing arts in the UK outside of London. For students wanting to do more major shopping there are frequent bus services into the center of Coventry, from where it is also easy to get a bus or train to Birmingham, the second city in the UK. The University's central location in the heart of England makes travel around the country easy. Coventry is at the center of the UK's road and rail networks. London is only one hour and 10 minutes away by frequent, direct express train, and a direct coach service links London's Heathrow and Gatwick Airports directly with Coventry city centre in less than three hours. Birmingham International Airport, to which you can fly direct on some carriers, is only nine miles (15 km) from Coventry. Coventry itself is a medieval city, now rebuilt after its devastation in World War Two, into a bustling industrial hub with world renowned businesses, a famous cathedral, and a well appointed shopping centre serving a population of around 300,000. The frequent bus service from campus to the centre of Coventry takes around 15 minutes. There is plenty else to explore near by the University. Stratford upon Avon, world famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, lies only fifteen miles from campus, making it easy to see plays at the legendary Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Warwick Castle - the finest medieval fortress in the country - is even closer to campus, as is Leamington Spa, an attractive regency spa town, and Kenilworth Castle, one of England's most dramatic and romantic ruined castles dating from 1120.
