Description:
The SUNY Brockport Program at the University of Leeds seeks to provide an opportunity for American undergraduates to become, during their semester of participation, actual University of Leeds undergraduates to attend the same classes, to live in the same housing, to participate in the same social, cultural, athletic, sporting and academic extracurricular activities as their British counterparts. Brockport's Leeds Program is a 'Full Integration' overseas academic program. In this aspect, this program is markedly different from overseas programs in which American students are taught in classes which enroll only American students. "SUNY Brockport study abroad programs are for students matriculated in the US only, US students only."
Highlights:
The University of Leeds was founded in 1874 as the Yorkshire College and was granted its Royal Charter in 1904. The aim of its founders was to provide advanced courses in subjects relevant to the region's principal industries of textiles, dyeing and mining and the first students were drawn mainly from the city and its surrounding area. From the early days, however, the University broadened its horizons and is now one of the most distinguished universities in the country, offering a range of courses and facilities which can be equaled by few institutions in Britain. The University is large by British standards and has over 16,600 full-time students. Our students are drawn from many countries and it is proud to boast that there are very few countries in the world without at least one Leeds graduate. The University is situated on a single campus close to the center of the city with buildings whose different styles reflect its major periods of growth during the twentieth century; the Gothic red brick of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries; the fine Portland stone of the thirties and fifties; and the glass and concrete of the sixties and seventies. There are residential and sporting facilities on campus with even more extensive provision in attractive areas of the city only a 15 minute drive away. The University has 80 academic departments teaching subjects as diverse as Biochemistry and Chinese, Civil Engineering and Fine Art, Medicine and Theater Studies, and enjoys a high international reputation in both teaching and research. There are over 350 undergraduate degree programs in the physical and biological sciences, engineering, the humanities, social and economic studies, education, law, medicine and dentistry.
