Description:
The course is worth 4 credits (6 ECTS). The participants will arrive on Sunday, 18 July 2010. The course will meet from Monday, 19 July 2010 until Friday, 06 August 2010. Each week the lectures will be held from Monday to Thursday. There will be 39 contact hours in the classroom. In addition, in the afternoons there will be meetings with Estonian politicians and foreign diplomats residing in Estonia and field-trips to official establishments (the Parliament, the European Commission in Estonia). Upon successful completion the participants will receive University of Tartu Certificate of Completion and an Academic Transcript. Required Course History 350 - Modern East Europe (SS) (3 credits) Prerequisites: History 101 or History 102. Course Assessment Students are expected to complete assignments outside of class and to prepare for classes; professors will outline expectations at the beginning of each course. Each block ends with a written essay and/or multiple-choice and true-false tests. Optional Course International Studies 333 1 unit (cr.) Designed for English-speaking students from around the world, this International Summer University provides a highly motivating academic atmosphere while offering courses in areas in which the University of Tartu has earned special recognition in international academic circles. Spend week one at University of Tartu Parnu College, week two at University of Tartu's main campus, week three at Tartu University College of Law and English College in Tallinn and week four at St. Petersburg State University. The University of Tartu is the largest public university in Estonia with a student body of around 17,000 and about 3,000 academic and administrative personnel. It has 11 departments and 6 colleges. There are around 500 international students and international agreements with around 40 institutions. UW Oshkosh students and Dr. Loewenstein will travel as a group with 10 or more participants. Students will be given the option of traveling as a small group without a UW Oshkosh faculty leader if the group is at nine or fewer students.
