Study at the Universidad Carlos III, the brilliant new university of Madrid. Students participate in the Curso de Estudios Hispanicos and are eligible to take monographic courses in Humanidades as well as regular advanced courses (Asignaturas Ordinarias). AYA also offers students direct-enrollment in advanced courses as alumnos visitantes at the Universidad Complutense and the Universidad Autónoma. Classes are offered at all levels of study, and all courses are taught in Spanish by regular university professors. Grades are accurately reported, and transcripts are documented. A certificate of study (transcript) is provided by Carlos III. The highest academic standards are maintained. The AYA Resident Director offers student support and guidance, arranges students' home stays with families in Madrid, and plans an array of cultural activities, including tours within Madrid and excursions to other Spanish cities.

Cost Include Description:
The AYA Basic Fee ($8,200 per term/$14,200 per academic year) is required of all participants. Included in this fee: - Provision of all necessary documents for obtaining the Spanish student visa.- Pre-inscription and tuition at the Universidad Carlos III, the Universidad Complutense (as alumno visitante), or the Universidad Autónoma (as alumno visitante). (Tuition at private fine art, drama, dance, and music schools is included only for student majors in these fields.) - Orientation led by the AYA Madrid Director, including mini tours, tutorials and lectures, grammar review, course placement and registration. - Academic guidance and tutoring throughout the semester or year (when requested). - Official transcripts (including actas) and recommendations (when requested). - Public transportation pass for unlimited travel within Madrid. An extensive program of group activities occurring every one or two weeks, including: * Outings within Madrid - students attend plays, concerts, visit a museum or an art gallery * Day-trips outside Madrid - tours of Toledo, Alcalá, Salamanca, for example * Overnight excursions - such as a weekend trip to Barcelona or Sevilla Thanksgiving dinner with the Director The optional AYA Housing Fee ($5,700 per term) covers AYA-arranged housing in a Spanish home and, as one option, includes breakfast and dinner every day except Sundays during the academic term, and (for students remaining for the entire academic year) room but not board during the Christmas and Easter holidays. All housing is contracted for the semester. AYA students who do not wish to live with a host family are free to make their own housing arrangements in Madrid.

AYA Madrid students must be residents of the US or Canada, or foreign students who are studying at American universities. In order to enroll in regular university courses in Madrid, a student must have at least an intermediate knowledge of Spanish (two university courses, or the equivalent).
