JMU Semester in Florence
Italy
Term: Fall, Spring, Summer
Dates: Sept-Dec; Jan-Apr; May-Jul
Description:
As a JMU Semester in Florence student you will study at the British Institute and live in a homestay with Italian hosts. You will study intensive beginning Italian language, attend theater and other cultural events and travel on weekend excursions with the group. The curriculum has a double focus: it highlights the Renaissance & Baroque ages through art & music courses; and it highlights 20th century Europe through political science and film courses. The city is ideal for foreign students because of its beautiful setting and small size. Florence, or 'Firenze' in Italian, has been a mecca for artists and art lovers since the Renaissance.
Highlights:
Florence is a living museum where history and contemporary life are inextricably interwoven. When you visit Florence, you experience the Renaissance with all its cultural breadth, faith in humanity, interest in science and nature and appreciation for beauty. Florentines are generally warm, outgoing people who have learned over the centuries to be philosophical about foreign students living in their hometown. Being able to live there, you will see the 'City of Renaissance Learning' at its best, the Firenze that tourists miss.
