Lexia in Venice: Area Studies, Culture and the Environment

Term: Academic Year, Summer 

Description: Lexia's program is hosted at the Istituto Venezia, Venice's oldest language and cultural institute. Through the Istituto Venezia's affiliation with the Universita degli Studi di Venezia, Lexia participants receive access to libraries, facilities, inexpensive student cafeterias, transportation passes and cultural resources through the city.

Lexia in Venice: Area Studies, Culture and the Environment

Highlights: * The Lexia Summer in Venice program is comprised of different components, some of which run concurrently,
while others follow in sequence:   

- Orientation
- Italian Language Course
- Italian Area Studies Seminar
- Summer Review and Evaluation   

All components of the Lexia program are required of all students and, when completed successfully, yield ten
semester (or fifteen quarter) credits. The program is designed to be academically challenging, but it allows ample
time for students to explore local culture independently.

* The Lexia in Venice semester program is composed of several components, some of which run concurrently, while
others follow in a sequence. The basic components of the program are:   

- Orientation
- Italian Language Course
- Area Studies Culture and Environment Seminar
- Research Methods Seminar
" Field Research Project
" Review and Evaluation

All components of the Lexia program are required of all students, and when completed successfully, yield 14-16 semester or 21-24 quarter credits per term. The program is designed to be academically challenging, but it allows ample time for students to become acquainted with local culture and a number of free weekends for independent travel in Italy or Europe.
