Biological and Ethnic Diversity of Southern Belize
Belize
Term: Fall, Spring, Summer, Throughout the year, Winter
Dates: 7-10 days each group
Description:
Sir Thomas and our TaTa DeHundee Wildlife Park and Education Center are located on the West side of the Sittee River just 3 miles from the Caribbean between Hopkins and Sittee Village. Our mission is to provide High school and College students with the opportunity to experience and observe the biological diversity of the Belizean jungle. Students will have the chance to learn the culture of the Ketchi Mayans and explore their natural limestone caves. Students will also be able to visit the Mayan ruins of Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit.
Highlights:
The property is comprised of 18 acres of some of the last undeveloped broad leaf jungle along the Sittee River. Stretching from the Sittee to Boom Creek, this sanctuary is habitat to the Jaguar, Jaguarondi, Tapir, Gibnut, Coati-Mundi, Kinkajous, Iguana and a host of birds that has made us highly recommended by the Belize Audubon Society. Recently a survey (March 28, 2009) by the Society reported observations of 93 bird species in a 60 minute observation period.
