The University of Arizona and the Trident School of Languages offer this four-week study of Japanese language and culture. The program is designed for students who want to improve their Japanese skills while experiencing Japanese culture and history. Each week of the program includes 16.5 hours of Japanese language classes, 4.5 hours of Japanese culture classes, and field trips to historic sites including Kyoto, Japan's ancient capital. Students will earn 6 UA credit units of academic credit. 4 unit are language classes and 2 are Japanese culture classes. A range of activities are organized to develop your experience of the Japanese way of life. These include visits to various centers of historic and cultural significance such as Nagoya Castle, Atsuta Shrine, Kyoto and other locations.
Highlights:
Trident is located in central Nagoya. The train and subway is only a short walk from the college. Students can travel easily to a variety of Nagoya's cultural sites, shopping areas, and night life spots. Nagoya is Japan's fourth largest city; has a population of over 2.1 million. Nagoya functions as the commercial, industrial and administrative center of the Chubu region of Japan. Its metropolitan center is located on the delta formed by the Kiso, Ibi and Nagara rivers. Nagoya is a cosmopolitan city of over 2,100,000 people and a center for industry and international trade. The city offers an amazing array of social and cultural opportunities from museums and sporting events to music and theater. The Sakae District is the heart of downtown Nagoya where people enjoy a variety of shops, clubs, and international restaurants.
