In the Republic of Panama, the Atlantic and the Pacific lie an hour's drive apart. The city-a cosmopolitan nexus for world trade-lies an hour from tropical forests: protected sanctuaries for animals and the humans who study them. In this multifaceted, exquisite setting, Florida State University offers its oldest international program. For more than forty years, the Panama Campus of the university has provided study toward associate and bachelor's degrees for thousands of U.S. and international students. One of Central America's safest and most hospitable countries-with Panama City the region's major international trade center-Panama abounds with opportunities for international learning and research. Where else can a student earn an American degree in a Latin American, bilingual/bicultural environment that combines the pristine and the sophisticated . . . the study of science, business, language, and history' The beautiful campus of Florida State University/Panama borders the Pacific end of the Panama Canal. One pillar of the Bridge of the Americas, in fact, rests there. Our campus provides all of the facilities and services of a small college and is affiliated with Panama's City of Knowledge, an educational/research complex representing universities worldwide. Coursework and excursions. Full-time undergraduate studies can be undertaken during any of the three semesters year-round. Both liberal studies requirements and specialized courses provide a balanced curriculum for all students. Internships and research projects are further enhancements. Panama is also a natural for business studies, with some 125 international banks located there and many corporations operating in the free trade zone. And every day, Panama's natural beauty, unspoiled beaches, historic sites, and economic dynamism are available to students and professors, who create specialized excursions to extend learning beyond the classroom. Housing. Program participants are offered furnished duplex apartments directly across the street from the campus. The La Boca area of Balboa is nicely landscaped, and students will also enjoy the restaurants and small markets within walking distance. Each apartment has three or four bedrooms, living-dining area, fully equipped kitchen, and at least two baths. Some have patios or an extra bedroom. Students may choose single occupancy bedrooms for an additional fee.
