Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, is a city of incredible beauty and culture. Built on the hills surrounding the Vltava River and dominated by Prague Castle (which began as a ninth-century fortress), Prague is an ancient center of art and intellect. That status flourishes still, with great cultural resources in art, ballet, theatre, and music; the prestigious fourteenth-century Charles University, the oldest in Central and Eastern Europe; and a major international film festival held each summer.
Highlights:
Prague is a fascinating vantage point from which to study Central and Eastern Europe emerging nations and issues of democratization-especially to study on the campus of Charles University, founded in 1348 and one of Central Europe's oldest and most prestigious institutions.
