Since its establishment in 1967 Macquarie University has been a pioneer in Australian higher education, with innovative ideas about university teaching and research. It is known internationally for its ground-breaking research in areas as diverse as biology, earth sciences, laser physics, mathematics, ancient history, psychology, linguistics, management and education. Macquarie University is located on 135 hectares of parkland 18 kilometers north-west of the Sydney central business district and is served by regular bus services. Set in a beautiful natural setting of gently rolling hills, it is adjacent to the large Macquarie Centre shopping plaza, and has ample shops and eateries on campus as well. It is also located 15 minutes from the 2000 Olympic Stadium, a must see for all visitors leading up to and during the Olympic games.
