Surrounded by white sand beaches, forest-clad hills, and volcanic formations, Dunedin has a distinctly Scottish flavor and is often referred to as the "Edinburgh of the South" because of its Victorian and Edwardian architecture. If you love nature, you'll find seals, albatross, and penguins living in the nature reserves at the city's edge. Dunedin is a true University city. With total population of 120,000, 20,000 are students, which means 1 in 6 people living in Dunedin is a student. BCA's program in Dunedin is located at the University of Otago, New Zealand's oldest and most prestigious university. You'll be able to enroll in a wide variety of courses, from Gender Studies to Pacific Island Studies. The latest addition to the university's facilities is the Information Services Building (ISB). This complex houses the Central Library and extensive computer labs. The ISB features greatly expanded reader spaces, multimedia and online searching, and facility for you to use your own laptops for web browsing or e-mail. The University of Otago also has one of the best student activities programs in the world, with an amazingly extensive series of clubs, tours, activities, and events to choose from. In Dunedin, you'll live with students on campus, in nearby apartments, or with host families. The university is located in the center of Dunedin and the campus is a short walk from the city's central shopping and services. There is more to Dunedin than just the university-spectacular scenery and awesome recreation opportunities are just a few hours' drive away. The South Island is home to some of the best ski and boarding resorts, adventure tourism, and hiking opportunities. Dunedin Quick Facts You can find some of the world's rarest penguins in Dunedin including rare yellow-eyed penguins. -Dunedin has a rightly deserved reputation as one of the best-preserved Victorian and Edwardian cities in the Southern Hemisphere. -The world's steepest street is in Dunedin - Baldwin Street. The annual Baldwin Street Gutbuster is part of Dunedin's Summer Festival program. -Dunedin's Botanic Garden is famous for the Rhododendron Dell. Its exotic beauty is celebrated every year in the third week of October with the Rhododendron Festival. -The Speights Brewery Heritage Tours offers a fascinating journey through the art of brewing from the Babylonians in 6000BC to the modern day brewing that operates today.
