The Northern State University Intensive English Program is a place that provides students with the English education and acculturation they need in order to be successful in the university classroom, in the work place, and with friends. The NSU Intensive English Program offers a variety of classes for all levels of English language students focused on Academic Writing, Listening, Speaking, Reading, TOEFL Preparation, American Culture, and Business English. In addition to these classes, the NSU Intensive English Program also gives students opportunities to practice their English skills in a variety of settings, including: ESL tutorial and computer labs, conversation partners, private tutoring, and field trips. Altogether, the NSU Intensive English Program provides over 30 hours of English instruction a week! Northern State University is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota and provides students with a very safe environment where they can relax and focus on their English skills. Everyday, students will need to use English to complete tasks around the campus and community and will have the opportunity to build relationships with Americans and with other international students. First, participate and succeed in any academic degree program.
The mission of the Northern State University Intensive English Program (IEP) is to provide all students who do not speak English as their first language with a challenging English language program which prepares them to participate and succeed in any academic degree program at the undergraduate or graduate level in a U.S. university.
Second, familiarize students with American culture and cultural dynamics.
The IEP is also designed to assist and familiarize students with American culture and the different cultural dynamics involved in both the classroom and out of the classroom.
