Description:
This program, offered by the College of Health and Human Sciences, is in response to the growing importance of international health and is open to anyone with an interest in this area. Students will have an opportunity to learn firsthand about the health care system in Belize and health issues related to a tropical climate. The goals of this course include: 1. An examination of the health care system in Belize and the impact of the World Health Organization/PAHO 2. Insight to the indigenous languages and culture of bush healing. 3. Interaction with students from the University of Belize. 4. Interdisciplinary networking of students from various health science programs.
Highlights:
The objectives of the program are: * Students will describe the structure of the health care system in Belize. * Students will identify the role of WHO/PAHO in Belize and other Central America countries. * Students will describe traditional health care in Belize. * Students will become familiar with healthcare services in Belize. * Students will network with health science students from different disciplines and from the University of Belize.

1) Hotel accommodations and some meals while the group is in Belize. 2) Program-related land transportation in Belize. 3) Admission fees to cultural and historical sites visited as part of the daily schedule. 4) International Student I.D. 5) NIU tuition for undergraduate or graduate credit. 6) NIU major medical insurance.
