IEP Semester in Barcelona
Spain
Term: Fall, Spring
Dates: August 31-December 17; January 11-April 29
Description:
Spend a semester in beautiful Barcelona, Spain, enhancing your Spanish language skills while immersing yourself in the local culture of this dynamic city, even if you have no previous Spanish studies. The second largest city in Spain and capital of the region of Catalunya, Barcelona provides an ideal environment to experience the local Spanish and Catalan culture. Participants will receive intensive language training and have the opportunity to practice their newly acquired language skills both inside and outside of the classroom. Additionally, students can choose from a wide range of Area Studies courses in English or Spanish towards their major, minor, or general electives. Students can decide to live with local homestay families, in apartments with international students, or in residence halls. Affordable cost, homestay or apartment living, fun cultural immersion activities and weekend excursions make this the ideal study abroad experience. Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and is located on the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. The beauty of Barcelona lies in the juxtaposition of ancient and modern. The Romans settled here 2000 years ago and laid the foundations of a cosmopolitan, coast-lined city located between the Mediterranean sea and the mountains. Today, tourists and locals admire incredible modernist architecture of Antoni GaudÃ. The world renowned Gothic quarter, the Modernist architecture of Gaudà and the parks and modern buildings of the 21st century combine to make Barcelona a world-class city. Walk down the bustling pedestrian strip of las ramblas to enjoy cafes, restaurants, market stalls and museums while marveling at the famous street performers. The coastline boasts a spectacular boardwalk that especially comes to life at night, as well as seven spectacular beaches. Students will find the city of Barcelona to be an exceptional classroom and are encouraged to soak up all this city has to offer. Course options include: Spanish (all levels) Espanol para los negocios, International Economics, International Marketing, Spain in Europe: an Urban Approach, Spanish Civilization and Culture, Spanish Contemporary Art, Spanish History, Cultures Without States: The Case of Catalonia, Politics, War and Economy in the Age of Globalization, E-Commerce and Online Businesses, The Political Economy of European Integration, From Empire to Nation: an Economic History of Spain, Barcelona.
