Our health care programs include the following: Addictions & Community Services Worker If you are ready to make a difference, save lives and contribute to the world in a positive way Addictions Worker training is an option for you. With specialized training to understand and deal with alcohol and drug abuse, the Addictions Worker program will allow you to make a real difference in the lives of others. The program will provide you with an array of health care, psychology, and sociology skills so you are well equipped to help your clients overcome their substance abuse issues. Intra-Oral Dental Assistant If you enjoy working directly with people, young and old, while doing fulfilling, satisfying work that is in high demand right now, you may want to consider training to become an Intra-Oral Dental Assistant. The Intra-Oral Dental Assistant program will provide you with a variety of skills, allowing you to assist a dentist or hygienist, educate patients, and prepare dental records, plus many other responsibilities. You will learn to prepare patients for treatment and assist dentists during procedures. In addition, you will learn to prepare dental materials, perform infection control procedures, and instruct patients on oral care. You will also learn to polish teeth, apply fluoride and topical anesthetic, take impressions of teeth and perform some orthodontic procedures. Training in dental software applications and office administration is also covered. After graduation, you can expect to work in a variety of dental settings including a dental office, the dental department of a hospital and with the public health department. Medical Administrative Assistant The Medical Office Assistant is an integral member of a health care team. Our Medical Office Assistant program provides quality instruction in four key areas: medical terminology, office administration medical transcription, and word processing to prepare you for a fast-paced career in this growing area of the health care industry. In addition to medical training, you will be fully trained in interpersonal skills, organizational effectiveness, and communication skills necessary to function in a medical environment. After graduation, you will be qualified for entry-level work as a medical office assistant, medical receptionist, appointment scheduler or a medical records clerk in a variety of health care settings. You may also find work in physicians' offices, medical centers, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory care centers, and medical billing offices. Medical Laboratory Assistant This unique program combines both theoretical and practical classroom instruction with sessions in a well-equipped laboratory to help you get the skills for an exciting career in a medical lab. You'll learn about human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. In addition, you'll develop fundamental knowledge about hematology, cytology, histology, ECGs and the cardiovascular system. You'll also learn about lab microbiology, clinical chemistry, quality assurance and mathematical calculations. Lab safety techniques, aseptic methods as well as ethics and standards of practice are covered as well. Apply your skills in a clinical practicum at a fast-paced hospital department or lab environment. Pharmacy Technician This program will prepare you to work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in community pharmacies and hospitals. Typical duties of a Pharmacy Technician include filling prescriptions, counting pills, measuring medications, labeling products and providing patients with background information regarding their medications. Pharmacy Technicians also verify prescriptions, maintain patient records, organize insurance information and perform clerical and other duties as necessary. When you graduate from this program, you will be eligible to apply to sit the certification examination offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board of Alberta (PTCB-AB) and to register with the Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians Alberta (CAPT AB). Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant The Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program has been designed to prepare and formally train individuals to work in partnership with, and under the direction of, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and/or Recreational Therapists. The primary goal is to provide learning opportunities which promote basic knowledge, skills, values and behaviours that will enable the graduate to implement delegated tasks, under supervision and direction, within a variety of health care and community settings. Resident Care Attendant The demand for caregivers has never been greater. The role of the Resident Care Attendant is to assist people, especially older adults, who require basic nursing care. The personal care provided is both essential to those in need and rewarding to you. The Resident Care Attendant program will help you develop the personal and occupational qualities needed to care for people living at home and in long-term care facilities. You will learn to identify and respond to the physical and emotional needs of your clients. Your instructors will provide practical, hands-on training in physical and mental activation, observing and communicating with the client, and proper handling of specialized equipment. After successfully completing the program, you will be qualified to work in long term care facilities, home health care agencies, retirement homes/residences, hospices and group homes.
