We invite you to participate in our program designed for those interested in Eastern Christian art and history of Eastern Europe. This will be an unforgettable experience of cultural and religious discovery and intellectual learning. The program provides knowledge about the history of Christian art and architecture on the crossroads of great civilizations Byzantine and Western European. There are particular emphases on cultural and religious issues which had been most relevant in Western Ukraine. The program consists of intensive courses and everyday trips to several cities of the studied region. The participants will be based in Lviv, itself the city of rich religious artistic traditions, and will regularly visit other sites of importance in the development of Ukrainian sacred art. This summer we offer you a thematic program: * Twilight of the Empire * Byzantine Reminiscences in the Multi-Cultural Context of Galicia A Study Program for Acquaintance with the Art and Culture of Byzantium and Ukraine July 16-25, 2009 Courses offered: * General Introduction to Eastern Slavic Art and Architecture; * Byzantine Culture. Galician Highlights; Trips offered: * Visiting various monuments of Christian art in Lviv (churches); * Visiting various sites of Galicia (Kamianets-Podilsky, Lviv region, several monasteries in western Ukraine). All courses are taught by qualified university instructors. The program is open to all interested in Eastern European art and culture and those who wish to gain firsthand experience and knowledge about this diverse and multicultural region. The Study program will take place at the Ukrainian Catholic University (Faculty of Theology campus) from July 16 to July 25, 2009.
