Japan
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer
Dates: Aug-Dec, March-July
Description:
Since 1950, IES has been building quality study abroad programs and introducing U.S. students to new places, studies, and ways of thinking. A non-profit educational organization, IES offers high academic standards and extensive financial aid in almost 30 programs throughout the world. IES Tokyo offers students with little or no Japanese language background the unique opportunity to supplement Japanese language instruction with insightful field study, and provides those with advanced language abilities an exceptional platform for expanding their existing skills. All students complete a field experience as a participant/observer in a Japanese organization such as a business, school, religious organization, publishing company, or community organization. In addition, all IES area studies courses include a field study component where students visit local institutions to experience aspects of Japanese life presented in the courses. All area studies courses are taught in English. All language courses are taught by professors of Kanda University of International Studies (KUIS) located just minutes away from the IES Center, in the coastal town of Makuhari New City in Chiba Prefecture. IES Tokyo enrolls 20 to 25 students each semester.
