Term: Summer
Dates: 7/11/09-8/01/09
Description:
The Culture and Geography of Mexico program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to study the physical, historical and human geography of the region in a first-hand setting. The three-week program will involve two weeks of intensive coursework at the Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro. Classes will be held in the morning after breakfast at the hotel. Students will be free for lunch but most afternoons will be devoted to field trips that highlight many of the themes addressed in the course. Field trips will include visits to neighboring towns such as Guanajuato, a colonial mining town that is also home to the Diego Rivera Museum, the Pena de Bernal (the world's 2nd largest monolith), the colonial Mision de Jalpan in the Sierra Gorda Montains, and Tequisquiapan, a regional, domestic tourism hotspot featuring geothermal spas. The final week of the program will be held in Mexico City where we will visit sites such as the pyramids of Teotihuacan, the Museum of Anthropology, and examine processes of urbanization in the world's 5th largest city.
