Description: The Sogang International Summer College(SISC) offers thirty five 3-credit courses and two 6-credit courses, twenty two in regular courses, thirteen in special courses, one intensive Korean language program and one Sogang/SUNY program.

Students can select various regular courses, including Korean Studies, Korean Language, East Asian Studies, Economics & Businesses, etc., in the morning. In the afternoon hours, there are Special Courses, including Korean Language, IT/Multimedia, Ethnic studies, History & Cultural Experience, East Asian Culture, Cultural Identity and special activities.

Each of the nine different modules consists of over 36 class hours and 36 cultural activities hours (equivalent to 12 class hours) during the six week term.

The Intensive Korean language program provides students with developing communicative competence and combination of thinking and performing.

In addition, The Sogang/SUNY program is a special program with State University of New York at Stony Brook. Three different professors of Sogang University and SUNY will collaborate with SISC students.

Sogang International Summer College

Highlights: The Sogang International Summer College (SISC) put emphasize on the cultural programs.

Students will participate in Master Classes by Korean Human Cultural Assets as well as renowned opinion leaders and artists of Korea. Oyoung LEE (Writer and Former Minister of Culture), Dong-ho KIM (Founding director of Pusan International Film Festival), and Soo-yong KIM (Film Director and President of National Academy of Arts, the Republic of Korea) are typical instances of the lecturers.

And also, in order to experience the cultural inheritances of Korean history, all of the International Summer College students are offered opportunity to visit the sites such as the regions of ancient Korean kingdoms, including "Gyeongju" the city designated by UNESCO as World's Cultural Heritage. In addition, a visit to DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), or IT/Multimedia industries will be one of the most exotic experiences in Korea.

Intercultural Festival is the highlight of this program. At the end of SISC, students will present their study result in a creative form of group project using their personal and cultural background. It can be a creative presentation of media work, performance, exhibition, etc. It is a festival of intercultural perspectives on Korea from students' own point of view.

    Mandatory fee is USD2,400 for tuition fee (up to 9 credit hour courses). And also USD70 for application fee (Registration fee) is available.

    And moreover Optional fees are USD660 for dormitory (room & board, double occupancy) and USD500 for a 5-day Cultural Field Trip.

    Scholarships are Available.  (1) Matching Fund Policy Students who have received partial funding from their home schools to study at Sogang will be eligible for matching funds from Sogang in defraying tuition costs. (2) Scholastic Awards Students with GPAs of above 3.5 out of 4.0 or 3.8 out of 4.5 will be eligible for scholastic awards. (3) Regional Scholarship Students from designated regions will be eligible for awards totaling up to 100% of tuition. (4) Friends of Sogang Scholarship Students from Jesuit universities or other sister universities will be eligible for partial tuition scholarships. (5) Returning Students Scholarship Students who have previously attended Sogang's International Summer College will be eligible for scholarships of up to 25% of tuition. (6) Sogang Family Scholarship Students with family members who are alumni of Sogang University will be eligible for scholarships of up to 25% of tuition or a free English essay course. (7) International Buddy Scholarship Current Sogang students may be eligible for scholarships of up to 25% of tuition or a free English essay course.

    Sogang International Summer College's Mission Statement: A six-week International Summer College offered by Sogang University provides international students with a unique opportunity to enhance a better understanding of various aspects of Korean culture. All participants will have a chance to learn about traditional and current Korea, including comprehensions of the historical and religious background, political tensions with North Korea, economic and financial issues, IT/Multimedia Industry, multi-culture, East Asian cultures, etc. Field experiences, including one 5-day field trip, master classes/workshops, an intercultural festival and many Korean cultural activities, are the highlights of this program
