Description:
This course is designed to better position our students in international learning and global education, and prepare them to work in a global industry. WMU students will gain global awareness of different engineering practices, thereby qualifying them for the global market. Studies of design, business, manufacturing, problem solving, quality control, and supply chain management practices developed in non-western countries, that have different cultural and historic backgrounds, will be conducted. In addition, student will be exploring trade practices, copyright and patent protections, research protocol review boards, political practices, etc. Alternative views of engineering and modern technology to stimulate reflections on their characteristics from a global prospective will be examined. The program also includes pre-travel sessions on the introduction of the course, Chinese culture, history, and international travel.
Highlights:
Students will have numerous cultural experiences in the host country. Some of the field trips and tours include travel to Black and Veatch, Fong's National Engineering, Ocean Park, micro-wind turbine demonstration site, Tsing Ma Bridge, ICC and IFC buildings, Electrical and Mechanical Services Division of Hong Kong SAR Government, Ocean Shipyard, Towngas, China Light and Power, Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Ltd., Hong Kong International Airport, MTR, Strategic Design Lab of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Kwai Chung Container Terminal, Sha Tin Waterworks, Sha Tin Drainage Work, and museums.
