Description:
O Level Preparatory Course - 1 Year Fast Track Program As the name of this course suggests, the GCE O Level Preparatory Course aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to help them do well in this internationally recognised examination set by the University of Cambridge. Students from many Commonwealth countries usually sit for this examination at the end of Secondary 4. The results students attain are used by many colleges and institutes of higher learning as an admission requirement. Students have to take five compulsory subjects: English, Mother Tongue (Chinese), Elementary Mathematics, Additional Mathematics and Combined Science (Physics & Chemistry). Depending on whether the student wants to enter polytechnic or junior college, students need to do 5 or 6 subjects respectively. Students may choose Combined Humanities (History & Social Studies), English Literature, Principal of Accounts, Higher Chinese or Chinese Literature. The O level examination is usually held from July to November. The oral examination usually takes place in July and August while the written papers are in October and November. In preparation for the Science Practical Examination in October, our students need to attend Science Practical lessons in a Science laboratory during the course. The results will be announced in January or February the following year. Students enrolled for this course will take the examination as a private candidate. As almost all the examinable subjects are in English, students who did not learn English as a first language may encounter some difficulties in this examination. They have a shorter time to prepare for this examination compared to the students in local schools. All content covered in the various subjects is based on the syllabus laid down by the Ministry of Education in Singapore. Pre-requisites All students must take a proficiency test to show that his or her proficiency level in English is at least at Lower Secondary level. Otherwise, he or she must undergo our full-time intensive Preparatory Course (English only) before another assessment is made. The student must have completed a national middle school and be at least 16 but not more than 23 years old to be able to take the GCE O Level Examination. Course Details Our one year full-time intensive O Level Preparatory Course runs from Mondays to Fridays from 9am-4pm. There will be a minimum of 8 students and a maximum of 12 students a class. Students are required to sign up for at least 5 subjects for the O level examination. They have to choose at least 1 additional subject for entry to junior college.
