Interdisciplinary Studies
Nicaragua
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer, Throughout the year, Winter
Dates: Spring 09 (01/14/09); Summer I (05/21/09); Summer II (07/01/09); Fall 09 (08/26/09)
Description:
The Interdisciplinary Studies major is designed with the curricular flexibility so that students can be able to attain personal goals that cannot not be met given the limitations of the university's traditional majors. For example, a student interested in Christian counseling may combine a minor in psychology with significant coursework in theology. A student wishing a broad background in Latin American Studies may combine a minor in International Relations and Politics with additional coursework in Spanish Literature and history. A student wishing to pursue graduate study in biostatistics may combine coursework in biology and mathematics. As soon as a student has decided to pursue a major in Interdisciplinary Studies, he/she must contact the Registrar's Office in order to be assigned an advisor whose background is consistent with the student's educational intent. In consultation with this advisor, the student must complete an Interdisciplinary Studies Plan of Work in which the goals for the major and methods of assessing the completion of these goals are clearly delineated. The original Plan of Work (and any subsequent revisions) must be approved by the Dean of Academics.
