Our fifth Franklin Residential College seminar on the culture and ecology of Costa Rica counts for three credits from the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute. The seminar meets weekly on Sunday night in anticipation of the Spring Break, when the group travels together from Atlanta to Costa Rica on Saturday, March 6th. At the research station in San Luis, the students partake in various activities, working with the naturalist and other staff, including nature hikes; exploring the ethno-botanical garden and plant and insect identification workshops; local dance and food workshops; visits to Monteverde sites; and Spanish language practice. On Thursday, the students stay overnight with a local family. The last two days of the trip are spent at the beach in Playa Grande, with the group returning to Atlanta on Sunday, March 14th, again as a group. Students are assigned a presentation to deliver and keep a journal related to their participation in the program.

Cost in US$: 1300 for FRC students / 1500 for non-FRC students
Cost Include Description:
The program costs approximately 1300 for FRC students / $1500 for non-FRC students. The costs include lodging, meals, local transportation, fees for scheduled activities, in-country transfers between cities, study abroad insurance, airfare from Atlanta to Liberia, and departure tax. Additionally (not included), students need pay tuition, internet/phone calls, and other personal expenses.Tuition is paid separately to the UGA Bursar's Office. ***Note: Out-of-state students pay in-state tuition. The Hope scholarship applies to study abroad tuition.
