This is a 5-week program offered through UC Irvine Summer Session Travel-Study in partnership with the Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM). Art and art history classes offered in Spain are a fantastic opportunity for students of all majors to develop the creative and critical thinking skills that are increasingly necessary in all fields. Even if you are not a studio art major, join us for an unforgettable summer! Downtown Madrid is 30 minutes away by bus. With the long Spanish summer days, you will take full advantage of living close to this lively European city.
Highlights:
Program includes a city tour of Madrid, 3-day trip to Bilbao and a 3-day trip to Barcelona. Visit Madrid, tour the Royal Palace and stroll the summer streets of the capital. Enjoy tapas at the Plaza Mayor before facing Picasso's masterpiece, Guernica. With at least two field trips per week, you'll know your way around like a true MadrileƱo. Then travel to northern Spain for a three-day trip to Bilbao. Discover how the Basque Region retains its own language, culture and cuisine. Tour Frank O. Gehry's architectural wonder, the Guggenheim Museum, and wander through the old streets of the Casco Viejo.

Application Process Involves:
University of California, Irvine's Mission Statement: Summer Session at UC Irvine provides administration of university-level
undergraduate courses during two 5-week sessions and one 10-week
session beginning in late June. Through open enrollment, we serve
current UC Irvine students, visiting UC and other U.S. college
students, international students, professionals and community
members, and high school students who have completed their junior
year. Summer Session makes it possible for students to make
progress toward their degrees all year round, often making the
difference for students who want to graduate on time. We offer an
extensive selection of courses and students can choose from breadth
requirements, coursework required for their major, or take courses
to complete a minor. We act as an integral part of the Continuing
Education branch of the university, supporting new program
development and initiatives that serve the broad levels of the
University.
