interstudy - University of Botswana
Botswana
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: Fall: July-November, Spring: January-June
Description:
The University of Botswana is located in Gaborone, the largest city and capital of the country, and one of the fastest growing cities in Africa. Located a mere 10 miles from the South African border, one can drive from Gaborone to Johannesburg in 5 hours. UB was established in 1982, although before that it was the combined University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland, and after those countries established national universities of their own, UB became independent. The University of Botswana was established with the help of the "One Man One Beast" campaign, headed by former Prime Minister Sir Seretse Khmama. The campaign raised money from the people of Botswana and other stake holders, in the form of cash donations, as well as donations of cattle, grain, eggs and other unique contributions.
