Ireland 2009
Ireland
Term: Summer
Dates: June 15 to July 16, 2009
Description:
Glendale Community College would like to invite you to spend 3 weeks on the Emerald Isle this Summer 2009 with professors Dennis Doyle and Sarah McLemore. We will be based in the capital city of Dublin just a stone's throw away from the city center. Our classes will take you through Irish literature, history and culture and our professors will make the literature real as they take you through the richly historic streets of Dublin. Walk the famous walk of Leapold Bloom from Joyce's Ulysses, visit Kilmainan jail and read Yeats's "Easter 1916." Just stepping outside will make these famous authors' words come alive. See what you are learning and reading about in the architecture, art and museums of this wonderful city. You will also visit the prehistoric site of Newgrange, ancient Hill of Tara and tour Melifont Abbey and trim Castle. Then enjoy the people, atmosphere and culture with a pint of Guinness at the local pub.
Highlights:
Course offered are Humanities 111, Irish History and Literature (3 units) and English 110, World Literature (3 units). Course will be offered through Glendale Community College in Glendale, California. Credit is transferable to UC and CSU.
