Imagine being able to speak French like a native. To master it, you need to immerse yourself in the language and culture. Consider this the perfect opportunity. Our French language courses allow you to practice French on a daily basis. You'll be able to watch French films in the movie houses lining the Champs Elysées, chat with Parisians as you stroll through the Parc Tullieres or order a crocque-monsieur at a local bistro what better way to learn French? Program Courses: * FRE 1010A: French, Level I This course aims to develop basic communication in skills in French. Through a progressive use of the four skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing, students develop oral and written proficiency at a limited level within the context of French culture. Credit: 3 semester hours. * FRE 2030A: French, Level III Prerequisite: FRE 1020. Corequisite: LLT 1011, Language Laboratory. This course reviews the basic skills learned in French I and II and continues building oral and written proficiency with more intensive reading and conversation within the context of French culture. Laboratory fee, $25. Credit: 3 semester hours. * FRE 3120A: Advanced French Conversation Drill and practice in conversational French. Topics are selected to meet the requirements of daily life. Not open to native or fluent speakers. Credit: 3 semester hours. * FRE 3620A: Paris in French Culture Prerequisite: French 1010 or permission of the Chair for non-majors. A study of the development of the city of Paris from its founding up to the present with the emphasis on its contributions to French culture; onsite discussions include urban study history, social history, literature, painting, music and theater. Credit: 3 semester hours. * LAC 3980A: French International Internship Prerequisite: permission of the coordinator. Total immersion experience in the field of interest chosen by the student in France. Credit: 3 semester hours. * ART 2740A: European Art - 19th Century The course begins with an examination of Neo-Classicism as the harbinger of the Romantic Rebellion in the late 18th century before moving on to a survey of the painting, sculpture and architecture of the 1800s ending with Post-Impressionism. Credit: 3 semester hours. * EDU 1011A Human Relations in Inclusive Sets Working with students with the full range of abilities as individuals and as members of groups, with emphasis on personal awareness and interpersonal communication. Parent and community involvement as well as focus on appreciation of the values and cultures of English language learners. Cooperative learning projects, seminars and individual projects will be carried out as models for classroom practice utilizing human relations skills and group dynamics. Credit: 3 semester hours.

Why not take our French Culture course as well to further enhance your experience? You'll stop in Drôme Provençale for an exciting service-learning project the French government has tailored especially for St. John's students. As a participant in the Monastery of Sainte Croix restoration project, you'll have the experience of a lifetime spending a half-day assisting in the reconstruction of the Monastery, followed by an afternoon of cultural activities.

While in Paris you will visit the Louvre and Versailles, ride the TVG to the south of France there you will be able to enjoy the charm of several picturesque towns; Café Archand, Valcrossants tour, the town of Orange, Chamaret, Castle Loire and the Village Poet Laval.
