Summer Semester in Mexico
Mexico
Term: Summer
Dates: see website for updates
Description:
Study this summer in the world renowned, cultural city of Oaxaca! The summer semester combines international academics, field studies, immersible Spanish, homestay living, hands-on community service development and cross cultural interaction. Coursework in English will focus on Mexico's culture, geography and history. Spanish classes are tailored to your level. An important component of this program is that students will also participate in community-driven, hands-on development projects like supporting a Zapotec women's weaving cooperative, shadowing doctors at local clinics, or helping rural community teachers at Oaxacan schools. In addition to studying and volunteering, spend some time exploring! Mexico is a country of rich traditions and contrasting landscapes. The state of Oaxaca is filled with colonial cities, expansive deserts, cool cloud forests, and the beauty of the Pacific Ocean. Oaxaca is the capital of the state and well-known for its hip cafes, art galleries and live music scene. The city boasts a Bohemian feel while maintaining its colonial charm and links to its pre-Hispanic past.
