Description:
Come join Glendale Community College this Winter 2009 as we explore the countries "Down Under." We'll cross the equator for a month long Southern Hemisphere summer on our way through New Zealand and Australia. There is even an option to stop over in Fiji on the way home. We are offering three classes, World Regional Geography, Culinary Arts, and Social Science. Our first stop is Auckland, the City of Sails, where we'll have breakfast on a sailboat as we cruise through the Auckland harbor. Then its off to Rotorua, the home of the Maori, where you'll get to press noses with a Maori warrior and sit down to a Hangi feast, prepared in the traditional way. You will learn about Maori culture, legends and history and visit the Thermal Park and Te Puia Cultural Park. We will also stop at the Waitomo caves for a underground adventure-black water rafting through glow worm caves. We arrive in Queenstown in the South Island where we make our home for a while and get the bulk of our classroom work done. Here in the "Adventure Capital of the World" you can parasail, sky-dive, bungy jump, jet boat and lots, lots, more. We will venture from Queenstown for an over-night cruise on Milford Sound and a hike to a glacier. We leave Queenstown for Sydney and arrive just before Australia Day, the Australian independence day celebration. You will experience the shows and fireworks display of this celebration in Darling Harbor, cruise the Sydney Harbor and visit the Aquarium. We stay minutes from the famous Bondi Beach so you can end your experience relaxing in the sun.
