Enrollment at the University of Nairobi - Homestay Program - Research and Internship Opportunities The Nairobi Exchange Program offers a unique opportunity for undergraduates to study African history, society, politics, religion, anthropology and archaeology. While in Kenya, students will enroll at the University of Nairobi, live with homestay families and take an introductory course in Swahili in order to further immerse in the culture. Students embarking on such a venture in Africa must be ready to face both the excitement and the challenges of living and studying in a developing country. Coursework: A typical semester includes a group tutorial in Swahili and 3 university classes. Examples of courses offered: - Nutritional Anthropology - Gender Roles - Medical Anthropology - African Econ. History - Cultural Anthropolgy - African Ethnology - The Family and Kinship - Economic Anthropology - Pycholinguistics - Kenyan Foreign Policy - African Religion- Sociology of Development Program Coordination: The African Studies Consortium of Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore Colleges and the University of Pennsylvania coordinates the Nairobi Exchange Program. Bryn Mawr College serves as the lead institution for this program, which is also designed to bring scholars from Kenya for a period of study and research at the Consortium member schools.
