  Scotland
  • Other Cities in Scotland:
  • St. Andrews

Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring

Description: As one of the top universities in the United Kingdom, the University of St. Andrews, founded in 1413, boasts a long and prestigious history. Its students enjoy a broad range of program offerings which are concentrated in three faculties: Arts, Divinity, and Science. The campus is fully integrated within the city, and its centrally-located academic departments and university library are complemented by nearby residence halls, and by a modern sports center with adjacent playing fields.

Courses may be selected among various departments. You will earn the following semester hours of credit:

    *Fall term: 12 credits.
    *Fall semester: 15 credits.
    *Spring semester: 15 credits.
    *Academic year: 30 credits.

St. Andrews is particularly well-known for its humanities curriculum, with the departments of art history, English literature and language, classics, religious studies, anthropology, politics and international studies, history and philosophy offering courses of note. In the sciences, St. Andrews' strong offerings are enhanced by the only on-site laboratory, and the largest operational optical telescope, in the UK. Additionally, courses in sustainable development and terrorism and political violence, have garnered a substantial reputation for their excellence.

As an overseas student at St. Andrews, you will apply to one of the three faculties and take the bulk of your course load within that faculty. Your assigned advisor will correspond with you about the course choices which are most appropriate for you, and you will enroll in 3 or 4 courses per semester for a total of 15 hours of credit per semester, or 30 per academic year.

Arcadia University: The University Of Saint Andrews

Highlights: The city of St. Andrews is located on the east coast of Scotland and is bordered by long, sandy beaches that are washed by the tides of the North Sea. As an important historical center of political and religious life, St. Andrews still features many captivating examples of medieval architecture. The city is within easy traveling distance of all parts of Scotland and is just an hour from Edinburgh airport.
