As one of the top universities in the United Kingdom, the University of St. Andrews, founded in 1413, boasts a long and prestigious history. Its students enjoy a broad range of program offerings which are concentrated in three faculties: Arts, Divinity, and Science. The campus is fully integrated within the city, and its centrally-located academic departments and university library are complemented by nearby residence halls, and by a modern sports center with adjacent playing fields. Courses may be selected among various departments. You will earn the following semester hours of credit: *Fall term: 12 credits. *Fall semester: 15 credits. *Spring semester: 15 credits. *Academic year: 30 credits. St. Andrews is particularly well-known for its humanities curriculum, with the departments of art history, English literature and language, classics, religious studies, anthropology, politics and international studies, history and philosophy offering courses of note. In the sciences, St. Andrews' strong offerings are enhanced by the only on-site laboratory, and the largest operational optical telescope, in the UK. Additionally, courses in sustainable development and terrorism and political violence, have garnered a substantial reputation for their excellence. As an overseas student at St. Andrews, you will apply to one of the three faculties and take the bulk of your course load within that faculty. Your assigned advisor will correspond with you about the course choices which are most appropriate for you, and you will enroll in 3 or 4 courses per semester for a total of 15 hours of credit per semester, or 30 per academic year.

As an important historical center of political and religious life, St. Andrews still features many captivating examples of medieval architecture. The city is within easy traveling distance of all parts of Scotland and is just an hour from Edinburgh airport. Orientation and Cultural Programs As an Arcadia student studying at St. Andrews, you will be entitled to all the services we provide. Before you go, you can correspond with your program manager for advice on the application process, choosing courses, and what you should pack. Once you arrive, our resident director will lead an orientation program in Edinburgh that will introduce you to the culture, history and politics of Scotland, as well as prepare you for the academic challenges of studying in a different educational system. During the semester, you can expect to participate in excursions that are designed to help you reflect upon your learning experiences in Scotland.

Scholarships are Available. - Scholarships and Financial Aid are a major part of our commitment to access for all students. Arcadia offers more than 1.5 million dollars in scholarships annually in amounts from $500 to $2,000. A financial aid coordinator is also on-staff to provide help to students who require individual consortium agreements or need Arcadia to process federal financial aid for them.
