Classroom teaching is complemented by on-site learning at destinations in and around Shanghai, Nanjing, and Beijing. Students are guided through the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Chinese companies in Beijing, and various sites of cultural and historical significance such as the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, the Great Wall of China, and more. All teaching, with the exception of some of the Mandarin language classes, is in English. Upon completion of the program, all students will receive an official transcript from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, an institution recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education. The program is led by CIS's in-country team who fully supports students throughout their stay. Most meals are included in the program fee as well as all in-country travel and excursions. Students are housed in shared (two or three per room) dormitory-style accommodation on Chinese university campuses in Shanghai, Nanjing, and Beijing.
