- Other Cities in Scotland:
Stirling
Term: Summer
Dates: Session 1: mid-June - mid-July; Session 2: mid-July - mid-August
Description:
Imagine a summer exploring and learning in this historic country with your base being in Stirling, the Gateway to the Highlands. Well, imagine no more! The University of Stirling summer program offers students a unique opportunity to spend four or eight weeks living in Scotland while earning 6-12 US credits in the process. In addition, unlike many summer programs, you will have the opportunity to study along with Scottish students who are also taking summer subjects. The University campus is located in 310 acres of stunning countryside. From the shores of the loch to an 18th-century castle, from the Ochil Hills and to the towering Wallace Monument, the University of Stirling is a feast for the eyes. The University of Stirling employs teaching staff who are consistently amongst the best in their fields and are dedicated to the success of their students. Courses have been tailored especially for the Summer Program to help you get the most out of your studies in Scotland. A key component of your course modules will be the class field trips that complement classroom learning.
Highlights:
Academically, Stirling has been ranked among the top British universities for teaching and career placement so you can be sure that your education will be challenging and practical. You have the opportunity to study for either four or eight weeks in Scotland and enroll in subject areas of business, English, film and media studies, history, politics, or religious studies. Subject selection is on a first come, first served basis so the earlier you apply the better your chance of getting the subjects you desire. Each module (class) is assessed either by exam, essay, presentation, fieldwork or a combination of the above and a full University of Stirling official transcript of your studies will be provided at the end of the program. You will receive three US credits (11 Stirling credits) for each course module that you complete thus enabling you to take six credits (during a four-week block) or 9 to 12 credits (during an eight-week block). This gives you the flexibility to decide the length of program and number of credits you wish to gain depending on your individual and school requirements. Each module is made up of taught and field trip components, giving you the opportunity to learn from University teaching both in and out of the classroom. Experimental Learning A key feature of the Stirling Summer Program will be the out-of class study which will be an integral part of each course module. The content will vary depending on the subject studied but options include visits to the Scottish Parliament, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Eilean Donan Castle and readings at the Macrobert Arts Centre. These field trips are also open to those not signed up for the module and are included in the program fee.
