Learn first-hand about the history and politics of South Africa from the end of Apartheid, through the first free election of Nelson Mandela, to the rise of South Africa's stature in the global arena. Your studies will be based on the beautiful campus of the University of Stellenbosch, surrounded by the Cape Winelands and within 45 minutes of Cape Town. Credits and Grades You will earn the following hours of credit: * summer session: 6 credits. Admission Requirements GPA Requirements: 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. You must be in good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation. You need to submit a complete application including a transcript, letter of recommendation, and an advisor's form before your application will be considered.
Highlights:
In addition to the politics, history, and economics of this fascinating and important country, you may choose to take a course in biodiversity, explore African art and literature, or participate in a service learning project. Orientation and Excursions After arriving in Cape Town, students will participate in a thorough orientation program led by Arcadia's resident staff. Orientation will be a perfect opportunity for you to meet other students on your program, get to know your resident director, and discuss your expectations and objectives for your time in South Africa. Arcadia staff will also be able to answer any questions you may have related to your personal health and safety, and practical steps you can take to make sure your experience in South Africa is as positive as possible. Outside of class, Arcadia staff, in conjunction with the University of Stellenbosch, has designed cultural events and activities that challenge students to fully engage in South African culture and make the most of their experience.
