Description:
This course in management strategy presents an overview of both contemporary leadership theory and recent academic research as a first step to helping you understand the principles and real-world practice of global leadership in complex organizational structures, both past and present. What human qualities have and will continue to contribute to executive ability? What characteristics have enabled leaders to lead? What managerial attributes create order and direction in the affairs of diverse and differentiated men and women? These and other questions pertinent to effective leadership will be raised and answered as you seek to comprehend both the technical components and specific traits of leadership as well as the ineffable mystery of charisma in leadership personality. As a step toward understanding, developing and progressively exercising your own executive ability, you will encounter extraordinary leaders from both past and present whose exercise of power, influence and leadership in governmental, non-governmental, transnational, and international business organization still stand as exemplary models of leadership. Political and military leaders from Napoleon to De Gaulle, Henry V to Gandhi, or business and industrial leaders, from Bill Gates to Carlos Ghosn all serve as useful and revealing case studies in leadership and effective decision-making. The selection of cross-cultural examples and case studies reflect the preoccupation of the course with looking at leadership from a global perspective.
Highlights:
To improve your own professional prospects and personal empowerment, particular emphasis will be placed on the application of theoretical models to self-diagnosis and the improvement of your own personal leadership skills.
