Description:
Academic Focus: Italian Studies: Cultural Studies, Dance, with special participation of the School of Medicine. Program Information: The Italian Studies Program offers students a unique and very intensive immersion into Italian culture, literature, art, history, religion, and current events. This year, the program will be enriched by faculty from the departments of Dance and the School of Medicine. On a private bus, the group travels around all of Italy contextualizing sites, traditions, customs, and current events within the framework of Italian culture as it developed throughout the centuries. After a week in Rome, the group will visit numerous central and northern cities including Pienza, San Gimignano, Firenze, Siena, Assisi, Ravenna, Padova, Venezia, Vicenza, Verona, Asolo, le Cinque Terre, Genova, and Pisa. The southern part of the program includes visits to Naples, Paestum, Pompeii, Palermo and much of Sicily, and Matera. The program ends on the Amalfi Coast with visits to Capri, Amalfi, Positano, and Sorrento. The program officially ends at 2:00 pm on June 29 when the group returns to Rome from Sorrento. The hotel cost is covered on the night of June 29, as students will not be able to take flights to the U.S. until the morning of June 30. The program welcomes students majoring in all disciplines. All courses are in English. For students of Italian, practical language experience occurs daily. NO prior knowledge of Italian is required. Eligibility Requirements: Minimum 2.0 GPA; good academic standing; at least 18 years of age; completion of a full year of college; and currently enrolled in a college/university. Summer: Applications will be accepted starting January 2. The deadline for receipt of applications is March 2.
Highlights:
Courses: All program participants take two courses for a total of eight Emory credit hours, one of which is ITAL 270R. Courses count towards the Italian Studies major or minor. With approval, students may take 12 credit hours for an additional academic fee of $3,560. ITAL 270R Introduction to Italy: Culture and Civilization Description: 4 credit hours ITAL 376WR Medicine and Compassion Description: 4 credit hours CL 329/PSYC 475S The Psychology of Classical Characters Description: 4 credit hours Living Arrangements: Hotel accommodations are provided.

Cost Include Description:
Cost includes an academic fee (USD 7,120) and a program fee (USD 3,500) for room, partial board, and insurance. This total includes eight semester hours, health and accident insurance (duration of program), hotel accommodations, breakfast daily, several lunches and all dinners, museum and cultural event fees, tips, excursions, and all program-related costs.
