Academic Focus: Political Science; International Studies Program Information: The Department of Political Science and L'Institut d'etudes politique de Paris (Sciences Po) jointly operate a six-week summer program on European Political Economy. Sciences Po, the top political science program in France and one of the premier schools of political science in the world, is located in the heart of the Left Bank university district in Paris. The program is designed to educate students in the theory and practice of political economy in Europe. The courses offered will include both a rigorous theoretical component developed through lectures and class discussion, and an applied, practical component realized through guest lectures and site visits. The broad themes that will be developed throughout the courses include: Investigating the process of integration; understanding the historical development of regional political and economic institutions; and recognizing the regional and national political challenges faced by European countries, such as migration, social welfare policy, and human rights. The program is designed for Political Science and International Studies majors. NO Knowledge of French is required. Participating in the program will offer students the opportunity to observe firsthand the operation of bodies such as the International Criminal Court, The European Court of Human Rights, the European Central Bank, The European Union and the European Parliament. All of the courses offered are being developed for the program in order to take advantage of the unique opportunity to visit institutions and hear from policymakers, officials, and scholars. All program participants take two courses for a total of eight Emory credit hours. POLS 385 Comparative European Political Behavior Description: 4 credit hours POLS 385 Human Rights in Europe Description: 4 credit hours POLS 385/ECON 385 Political Economy of European Integration Description: 4 credit hours Eligibility Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA; good academic standing; at least 18 years of age; completion of a full year of college; and currently enrolled in a college/university. Summer: For Summer 2010 applications will be accepted starting January 4. The deadline for receipt of applications is February 2.

Cost includes an academic fee (USD 7,120) and a program fee (USD 3,400) for room, partial board, and insurance. This total includes eight semester hours, health and accident insurance (duration of program), accommodations at an international student foyer, two meals daily, cultural activities, and excursions.
