Study Law This Summer in Nairobi, Kenya!
Kenya
Term: Summer
Dates: June 9, 2008 - July 19, 2008
Description:
Since 1988, Widener University's Nairobi Institute has offered an extraordinary academic and cultural experience in partnership with the University of Nairobi. In the summer of 2008, the program will offer three courses of three credits each: International Environmental Law and Trade, Comparative Constitutional Law, and Law on International Organizations. All are 3 credit courses. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday from June 9 to July 19. Kenya is one of the most beautiful, vibrant countries in the world. It has extraordinary national parks teeming with wildlife, beautiful beaches on the Indian Ocean, and excellent hiking in the mountains. In the summer of 2008 we will organize three safaris at special discounted prices: a weekend trip to Lake Naivaisha and the sanctuary of Crescent Island, a three day safari to Samburu National Reserve, and a safari to the world famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve, the home of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra on their trek up from the Serengeti. In past years during the week off, Institute members have climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, traveled to the Indian Ocean beaches at Mombasa or on the nearby island of Zanzibar or visited the mountain gorillas in Uganda or Rwanda.
Highlights:
This year we have planned three group safaris at steeply discounted prices to enhance your stay in Kenya. The weekend before the program begins we will travel to Lake Naivaisha in the Great Rift Valley, the mammoth fissure in the earth's surface where the great anthropological discoveries have been made. This freshwater lake has an abundant hippo population and over 300 species of birdlike. We will take a launch to the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary where we walk among giraffe, zebras, gazelles and other non-predatory wildlife. There will be an opportunity to climb the extinct volcano, Mt. Longonot that rises to 9000 feet above the Rift Valley floor. After the first week of classes, we will journey to the Samburu National Reserve on a three-day safari adventure. We will travel around the 17,000 feet jagged peak of Mt. Kenya and then down into the sub-desert region of Samburu. The Ewaso Nyiro River runs through the Park and attracts abundant wildlife. Students will encounter leopard, cheetah, elephant, ostrich, gerenuk antelope, crocodile, Grevy's zebra, and the reticulated giraffe. At the end of the program, we help arrange a safari to the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, home of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra.
