King's College London is one of the oldest, largest and most prestigious colleges of the University of London. Founded in 1829, King's is a great international institution with around 2,000 staff members and 9,000 students from all parts of the world. King's is a friendly and vibrant college at the heart of London. It is close to a host of famous centers of learning and culture, and the range of entertainments on offer is unrivalled. King's is very traditional academically. Study abroad students are encouraged to select courses from only one department. Students' non-academic needs, including health, welfare, and careers advice, are supported by a wide range of college services designed to provide help and support at the university. King's also has a flourishing student union with its own premises, inlcuding a night-club, shop and bar.

The academic year in the United Kingdom runs along roughly the same guidelines as the American academic year. It begins in late September and ends in mid-June. Teaching terms usually consist of three ten-week periods separated by two four-week breaks, but increasing numbers of universities have switched over to the semester system.
