IFSA-Butler at the University of York
England
- Yorkshire & the Humber:
York
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: September - June
Description:
The University of York is ranked within the top ten universities of the United Kingdom. It is a very popular school to attend, with 22 departments ranging from arts to sciences. The main campus is Heslington. York has a great deal of history to it and many of the university buildings trace back to the Middle Ages. The campus covers over 200 acres with a beautiful lake as its centerpiece. Bookstores, tennis courts, a bank, health center, travel agencies, and movie theatres are frequented by students on campus. However, since the campus is so close to the downtown area, students benefit by living near a thriving city. The bus to the city center takes only ten minutes. The University of York has an excellent reputation in numerous fields of study but is particularly well-known for the archaeology, English and psychology departments. The town of York is three hours from London and Edinburgh. The city has a very traditional British looking setting, with a lovely cathedral in the middle of town. The Minster is the largest medieval cathedral in all of Europe. Because of the quaint tea houses, viking museums, and cobblestone roads, the city is the second most visited tourist city in England. In medieval times a fortified city wall defended the town. Most of the walls are still intact.
