Founded in 1965, the University of Warwick is one of the U.K.'s most competitive universities, ranking just behind Cambridge, Oxford and other top U.K. universities as both a teaching and research institution. Located in Coventry near the famous Warwick Castle and other attractions, the university offers degree and visiting students alike a challenging academic atmosphere. Warwick students benefit from the lecture/seminar/tutorial system, in which small-group seminars or tutorials supplement course lectures. This system allows students a more individualized approach to their studies, as well as the opportunity for more in-depth discussions with fellow students and instructors. In addition, visiting students are assigned to a personal tutor or academic advisor from their department. Visiting students are guaranteed housing in Warwick's modern accommodation, which includes both flats and dorms. Warwick's campus offers numerous amenities to students, including restaurants, shops, a post office, several banks and a convenience store. The university also features the Warwick Arts Centre, the UK's second largest arts center, which is home to top-rated professional musical and theater productions.
