IFSA-Butler at the University of Warwick

  England
  • West Midlands:
  • Coventry

Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: October - July

Description: Founded in 1965, the University of Warwick is one of the U.K.'s most competitive universities, ranking just behind Cambridge, Oxford and other top U.K. universities as both a teaching and research institution.

Located in Coventry near the famous Warwick Castle and other attractions, the university offers degree and visiting students alike a challenging academic atmosphere. Warwick students benefit from the lecture/seminar/tutorial system, in which small-group seminars or tutorials supplement course lectures. This system allows students a more individualized approach to their studies, as well as the opportunity for more in-depth discussions with fellow students and instructors. In addition, visiting students are assigned to a personal tutor or academic advisor from their department.

Visiting students are guaranteed housing in Warwick's modern accommodation, which includes both flats and dorms. Warwick's campus offers numerous amenities to students, including restaurants, shops, a post office, several banks and a convenience store. The university also features the Warwick Arts Centre, the UK's second largest arts center, which is home to top-rated professional musical and theater productions.

Highlights: Students applying to IFSA-Butler's programs in the U.K. will have the opportunity to live and study in some of the most renowned and respected institutions in the world. A serious and dedicated academic environment awaits those who wish to experience these challenging and rewarding programs.

The long history of university education in the United Kingdom dates back to the foundation of Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the mid 13th century. Students who attend university in the U.K. have the opportunity to mix with international students from every country on earth who came to the U.K. to experience the same scholastic prestige.

The academic year in the United Kingdom runs along roughly the same guidelines as the American academic year. It begins in late September and ends in mid-June. Teaching terms usually consist of three ten-week periods separated by two four-week breaks, but increasing numbers of universities have switched over to the semester system.
