Russian Studies Semester: Language, Literature, Culture

Dates: Autumn, Spring semester; Academic Year

Description: The module includes courses in the Russian language, literature, culture and history and is meant for students with a good level of the Russian language who want to improve their command of the language and broaden their understanding of Russian culture and history. Instruction is in Russian in most courses of the module. The spring semester module has a course instructed in English along with courses instructed in Russia. Students admitted to the program study alongside Estonian and international students.

Autumn semester: Russian Language, Literature, Political History 24-36 ECTS

Spring semester: Russian Language, Literature, Culture 24-36 ECTS
Optional at extra cost: Study trip to St. Petersburg and Narva

Some courses are instructed in Russian. Students must have Russian language proficiency equivalent to B1 (ORFL-1).

At the end of the program students have an opportunity to take a test of Russian language proficiency at the Russian Language Testing Center and receive a certificate.

Highlights: The University of Tartu is one of the most distinguished centers of Slavic Studies in the world. It is a cradle of the Tartu-Moscow School of Philology and Semiotics which was founded by Professor Yuri Lotman, who worked at the University of Tartu for more than forty years.

Cost Include Description:
Program fee is 1300 EURO (appr. 1700 USD). The tuition fee covers all expenses that relate to coursework and studying. The tuition fee does not cover housing costs, food or personal living expenses. Students should plan on 300 EUR/month for housing and food.

Language level required to follow the courses: 1. Second or third year students of Russian major or minor; 2. knowledge of Russian equivalent to B1 ("ORFL-1)
