Language & Culture in Mexico

  Mexico
  • Cuernavaca:
  • Cuernavaca

Term: Fall, Spring, Summer, Throughout the year, Winter

Description: Known as the "City of Eternal Spring," Cuernavaca's gorgeous climate, ancient ruins, and colonial architecture make it the perfect location to discover the language, culture, and warmth of Mexico. Originally a retreat for Aztec royalty, then the site where Cortés built his palace, the Cuernavaca of today is a cosmopolitan city and the fastest growing capital in the state of Morelos, with a population of about 500,000.

Courses are held at Cemenahuac Educational Community, an international language institute housed in a villa in the elegant Las Palmas section of the city, and provides small classroom instruction by native Spanish speakers. Living with a Mexican family offers further language practice and immersion in Mexican culture. Culture courses include field trips to the pyramids of Teotihuacan and other archaeological sites.

Highlights: A one-day excursion to visit the pyramids of Teotihuacan is included in the cost of the program. Other cultural excursions are encouraged and may be arranged at participants' expense. Participants wishing to experience life in a traditional Mexican village may have the option to temporarily transfer to Buenavista de Cuellar, a pueblo nestled in the southern Sierra Madre Mountains approximately one hour from Cuernavaca.
